Monsters of the Wilderness

Can You Guess?

See if you can guess what these creatures are. The answers will be at the bottom of the page. Have fun!

Screamin' Banshee

In the dead of night

In the moon's cool light

As the heat of the day subsides

Comes a heinous sound

Heard by all around

Windows open, or still outside.

WoooAAAAHHHH! WoooAAAAAAAH!

It screams. My heart stills. I feel like screaming from the sound of it. Screaming at it. Make it stop!

It sounds almost human, but also inhuman. It's weird voice, loud voice, pierces my very bones and raises the hair on my arms.

What is it?

Night Terror

A hole in the jaw

Doesn't matter if he saw

He can find you without even seeing.

Moves first left, then moves right

Needs no help from the light

Tastes the air,

Knows just where

You are being.

If it bites,

You will fall,

And emergency will call.

What is it?

Brutal Thief

Hens will go missing.

His rocking and hissing

Is meant to defend when you see him.

With canines so long

And a tail lithe and strong,

You won't know he is dead

Or just fooling you.

Do dead creatures smile

With mouths full of fangs?

Do they breath till you leave?

What is he?

Answers

I guessed the first and the last one right but for the second one I was sure it was a bat because I always think if they bite it is straight to the hospital because of rabies. Ha! I am a bit paranoid when it comes to bats. I am not too chummy with Opossums either.

If a bat is mad it would be hard to avoid because of its excellent sonar, somewhat impaired by the disease I would imagine. When they're well they are fascinating to watch as they zoom about gulping bugs and stopping the spread of things like the West Nile Virus. :)

That was really fun silver poet. I was wrong on all of them. Great poetry mixed with fun guessing game.
